The cast is peppered with actors with box-office appeal, including Kristen Stewart of “Twilight” fame, Kirsten Dunst, Amy Adams and Viggo Mortensen. The two male leads, characters based on Kerouac and his fellow flâneur Neal Cassady, are played by lesser-known actors, Sam Riley and Garrett Hedlund.

In July, before filming began near the primary sets in Montreal, the cast and crew went through Beat boot camp — three weeks of immersion with Kerouac experts.

One “drill instructor” was Gerald Nicosia, author of “Memory Babe: A Critical Biography of Jack Kerouac,” considered by many (including William S. Burroughs) to be the definitive Kerouac account.

None of the cast and crew were old enough to remember the Beat era, so Mr. Nicosia, of Corte Madera, approached the sessions as if he were teaching ancient history, “like I was bringing them the Holy Grail.”

He said the actors were especially intense, knowing they would upset a lot of people if they didn’t portray the characters accurately.

At the camp, Mr. Nicosia played an audio interview that he recorded in 1978 with Lu Anne Henderson, Neal Cassady’s young wife, on whom the book’s character Marylou is based. That conversation is also the basis of “One and Only: The Untold Story of ‘On The Road,’ ” a new book by Mr. Nicosia out this fall.

Could the cast and crew dig, er, relate?

“They’re all very unconventional in their own lives,” Mr. Nicosia said of the actors. “If you’re an outsider, you understand what counterculture is about.”

All the casts and crews of the “Breaking Dawn” were enjoying an exclusive all night long party at the Executive Hotel and Suites in Squamish. The hotel and restaurant were reservedly closed to public at 7 P.M. by the hotel security and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Nobody was allowed to enter the private gig, except the invited ones [the casts and crews].

Interestingly, R-Patz and K-Stew did not attended the night out, despite the fact that they were the most awaited guests at the event. Yet there was no confirmation about where the famous couple were by the time the other “Breaking Dawn” family held the bash. Meanwhile, Taylor Lautner and Dakota Fanning were spotted enjoying the night party. Taylor was not accompanied by his rumored girlfriend, Lily Collins.

Words on street said that the “Breaking Dawn” ‘s private bash was attended by around 200 invited guests. And they were having fun time on the dance floor or just sprawling around at the venue. The event was held in the restaurant and near the bar, also on a large patio outside and in a heated tent which wrapped around the building. They were enjoying appetizers, grilled meals and a cash bar.

“Rob led the crowd singing for her, and you could tell she was so embarrassed but in a cute way!” a source told Us Weekly. “Everyone was in a good mood, but it was a bittersweet night [as filming is almost complete].”

The party-goers dined on treats like oysters, and at around 10 p.m., the birthday gal was presented with a “simple chocolate cake.” KStew and RPattz have always kept their relationship on the DL, but they seemed to be getting a bit of PDA on at the low-key bash.

“Rob and Kristen were together all night,” the source said. “They held hands and he kissed her cheek a bunch of times.”

So what did the actress get for her birthday? Rob and the gang all pitched in to buy her a motorcycle! “Rob was so excited for Kristen and they each took turns riding it,” the source said. “Kristen learned to ride a dirt bike in ‘New Moon’ so they thought it would be appropriate. Rob was supervising as she sat on it to make sure she was OK. They looked like they were having a great time, and it will be something they can really enjoy!”

Sounds like a great way to celebrate Kristen’s big day!
